In thirty minutes from Stockholm city you’ll reach Ekerö Municipality. The area consists of 140 cobblers and islands – the Mälar Islands! Among the larger ones you’ll find Ekerön, Svartsjölandet, Lovön, Adelsö, Munsön and Björkö. The islands have a fantastic landscape and offer a wealth of attractions and activities. How about visiting a museum, a blue lagoon or why not the old Viking town of Birka?
Ekerö is one of Stockholm County’s smaller municipalities, but the population of the municipality has steadily grown since the 1970s. And that’s perfectly understandable. Wherever you are in the area you’re never more than 30 minutes walking distance from Lake Mälaren, Sweden’s third largest lake.

There are many ways to get around among the islands. There’s a motorway with bridge connection. There are also two ferry routes, Ekeröleden and Adelsöleden. They are traffic ferries that take both people, bikes and cars. The latter is even free. You can also get around by bus or why not rent a bike?
